Now in its 20th year, the Association of Diving Contactors has come along way since its separation from the AODC (Association of Offshore Diving Contractors). Therefore, the time is now right to take the next step in evolving the way that the Association functions and is administered so that it continues to progress and expand in the coming years.

The brief job prospectus set out below seeks to begin the search for the Association’s next secretary; the intention being for the new specialist to start taking up elements of the role from November or December 2016 with a view to being fully operational from 1 January 2017.

While some of what is expected of the secretary could be considered as routine administration, there is a requirement for the appointed person to be knowledgeable about the industry and flexible enough to react to members’ enquiries or questions with the level of technical support or advice that might be warranted. The development and circulation of an assortment of industry guides, newsletters and periodic notices also forms some of the key requirements.

Although the main focus of the Association is clearly its members, there is also one other key area of activity that should not be underestimated – the provision of assistance to client groups, contractors or anyone else who has need of the services of commercial divers. These groups, and without a doubt quite a few others, may from time to time benefit from some help and guidance to properly understand their responsibilities under the Diving at Work Regulations and the Approved Code of Practice.

For the right person, the position will be very enjoyable, periodically testing and satisfyingly rewarding. It will enable the selected candidate to help influence and make a difference to the direction in which the Association and this industry sector progresses in the years ahead.
